merica’s healthcare system is different from many other countries because it is not socialized, or government controlled. Each individual must pay the cost of his or her own medical care when the services are performed, rather than when they pay taxes. Because healthcare services are expensive, it is highly recommended that individuals purchase health insurance. For low-income individuals, there are several government insurance programs available.

There are two options available to those who wish to purchase a health insurance plan:

1) Employer (group) health insurance coverage or
2) Individual health insurance coverage

With either of these options, the kind of coverage you receive, as well as the cost, will vary from company to company.

With the cost of health care and insurance in the individual’s hands, comes the right to choose the provider of the care. Americans are free to choose the doctors and insurance companies that they wish. They are not limited to the doctor that the government provides them with unless they are unable to pay for insurance or the cost of the service.
