or
over a quarter of a century, Albemarle Adult Education, in close cooperation
with local community organizations, has provided quality educational
services to area adults whose first language is not English. Through
its long experience, Albemarle Adult Education has developed successful
methodologies, curricula, community partnerships and a highly qualified
staff.
The Web Project expanded from Albemarle County’s first English
Literacy and Civics Education grant. The purpose of the grant was to
integrate adult ESOL learners into the fabric of civic life in the United
States. The Web Project accomplished this by offering students opportunities
to research important aspects of local civic life, to share that information
with each other while creating a product and, by creating a product,
offer their knowledge to the greater ESOL community. The Web Project
continues to evolve and move through phases of development, reaching
more and more community members and creating teaching and learning experiences
between all involved.
WEB PROJECT STUDENTS
Advanced level ESOL students representing fourteen countries researched,
wrote and formatted the information found on this website. The students
also planned, filmed and edited a Web Project DVD.
